  hot take but Luthen Rael is the greatest character in the entire Star Wars canon. not top 5. number one. that monologue in season 1 where he describes what he's sacrificed for the rebellion is the single best piece of writing Star Wars has ever produced. fight me

  I've been a Star Wars fan since I was literally 5 years old watching A New Hope on VHS at my grandma's house. I'm 41 now. Andor is the first time in probably 20 years that I've felt the same way I felt watching those films as a kid. It's not nostalgia bait. It's not fan service. It's just... good television. Like legitimately good television that would stand on its own even without the Star Wars name attached.

  Grading on a curve. Full stop. If this exact show came out under a different IP nobody would be calling it the greatest sci-fi drama ever made. It's very good. Maybe an 8/10. The bar for Star Wars is just so underground right now that anything competent feels like a masterpiece.

  What gets me is how adult it is. Not adult like violence and cursing but adult like — it treats the audience as intelligent people who can sit with ambiguity. Cassian isn't a hero for most of it. He's a guy making survivable choices in an unsurvivable situation. That's real writing.

  Cassian Andor is a more complete and interesting protagonist than Luke Skywalker ever was. That's not an insult to Luke. It's just true. Luke is a mythic archetype. Cassian is a human being. Different tools, different jobs. But as a character to actually follow through a story, Cassian wins.

  The fact that this is on Disney+ and not HBO is the biggest upset in prestige TV since Breaking Bad aired on AMC. Nobody expected either of those networks to produce that caliber of storytelling. Sometimes the platform doesn't predict the product.

  I work in television production (not on this show) and the craft on display is genuinely exceptional even by non-Star Wars standards. The production design, the cinematography, the editorial choices. This is prestige television operating at the very top of its range. The discourse is not inflated.

  disagree actually. empire strikes back exists and remains untouched. andor is phenomenal tv but cinema and prestige TV are different art forms and comparing them is apples and oranges. ESB changed filmmaking. andor is great prestige tv. those aren't the same achievement

  It's great. I said that. But 'redeems the franchise' is doing too much work. One great show doesn't undo the sequels. It just means Andor is great. The franchise still has a massive identity problem that one Tony Gilroy show can't solve.

  The problem with calling it the best Star Wars ever is you're competing with something that is fundamentally part of the cultural DNA of billions of people. Statistically impossible to surpass the original trilogy's impact no matter how good the writing is. It's like saying a new painting is better than the Mona Lisa. Technically maybe. Culturally? No.

  The political allegory is a bit on the nose at times if I'm being real. I get it. Authoritarianism bad. Complicity bad. But some of the dialogue feels like it was written to be quoted in think pieces rather than to sound like how actual characters talk to each other.

  Season 2 lost me a little in the middle section honestly. It's still good but there are two episodes that feel like they're spinning wheels. The finale redeems it but I don't think it's a perfect season the way some people are saying. Very good. Not flawless.
