'I was spanked and turned out fine' — said while defending hitting children. The fine-ness is doing a lot of unexamined work in that sentence.
Every study for decades says it doesn't work better than alternatives and carries risk. At some point 'but tradition' isn't a parenting plan.
There's hitting a kid in anger and there's a controlled swat for running into traffic. Treating those as the same thing helps no one.
Is it wrong to choose not to have children just because you don't want to?
