Is spanking a child ever acceptable?

A generation was raised on it and 'turned out fine.' Discipline that works, or violence we normalized? Be honest about what you'd do.

Got hit as a kid. I don't hate my parents, but I do flinch when people raise their hands fast, 30 years later. 'Fine' has an asterisk.

'I was spanked and turned out fine' — said while defending hitting children. The fine-ness is doing a lot of unexamined work in that sentence.

Every study for decades says it doesn't work better than alternatives and carries risk. At some point 'but tradition' isn't a parenting plan.

There's hitting a kid in anger and there's a controlled swat for running into traffic. Treating those as the same thing helps no one.
