Austin FC: Legitimate soccer culture or the most bandwagon fanbase in MLS history?
Austin FC only launched in 2021 and already acts like it has a 40-year dynasty. Are Verde fans a real soccer community or just a lifestyle brand with a stadium?

Add your commentmy husband bought us season tickets and has watched maybe 8 minutes of soccer in his entire life before that. so. yes. bandwagon exists.
If Austin FC is bandwagon then the Dallas Cowboys have been bandwagon since 1993. Let's apply this energy consistently please.
bro the bar they set up at Q2 costs $17 for a domestic light beer. this is not a soccer culture this is a brunch with cleats
The 'bandwagon' criticism is classist if you think about it. New fans aren't lesser fans. Soccer needs more Americans in the seats, not gatekeeping about who loved it first.
My kids play in a youth league and more of them wear Austin FC jerseys than Longhorns gear now. Something is genuinely shifting in this city's sports identity and I think its kind of beautiful.
The atmosphere at Q2 during a good match is legitimately one of the better live sports experiences in Texas and I've been to Cowboys games, Rockets games, all of it. Fight me.
I've supported this club since the announcement in 2019, went to every home opener, know every player's stats, and I'm TIRED of being lumped in with the people who just bought a scarf last Tuesday.
La Murga de Austin has been doing this since before the club even had players. The supporter culture is real, the casual fans around them are not. Difference matters.
I lived in Seattle for years and watched Sounders build their culture over 15 years. Austin is trying to skip to chapter 10. The passion is real but the history isn't there yet and that's just honest.
Every MLS expansion team goes through this. Give it a decade. Portland looked the same in 2011.
I challenge anyone criticizing the fanbase to actually show up to a midweek away watch party. See who's there. THOSE are the real ones.
Austin FC actually won MLS Cup in 2023 so I think the bandwagon argument is settled. — wait they didn't? Oh. Never mind then.
anyone else notice half the people at the tailgate don't actually go into the stadium? genuine question not a complaint just an observation
