Add your commentThe Titans have been here since 1999 and won exactly zero Super Bowls and came within ONE YARD of winning one and that yard still haunts my entire family to this day and you know what? I'd still vote yes on the stadium. I'm a sick person. I've accepted this about myself.
I moved here from Green Bay two years ago for work, so take this for what it's worth from an outsider — but in Green Bay the Packers are literally community-owned. Fans buy stock. There is zero reason the Adams family, one of the wealthiest ownership groups in the NFL, cannot put up a larger share of this. The NFL's revenue sharing model all but guarantees profit. Public risk, private reward. That's the part that should bother people regardless of how you feel about football.
Born and raised in Nashville, and I'll say it plain: this city spent decades clawing its way onto the national map. The stadium isn't about the Titans' win-loss record — it's about keeping Nashville in the conversation for Super Bowls, College Football Playoffs, massive concerts, Final Fours. You think those events just wander into cities with no infrastructure? Hard no. The economic argument goes way beyond whether Derrick Henry's replacement can find the end zone.
I used to live off Murfreesboro Pike about a mile from the current stadium. Nissan Field was supposed to transform that whole corridor. You know what that corridor looks like 25 years later? I rest my case.
Okay I need to correct something I keep seeing in this thread — people keep saying it's a BILLION taxpayer dollars. The actual public funding component is closer to $500 million in bonds, and Metro is counting on tax revenue generated IN the stadium district to pay those back. You can disagree with that math, but please stop saying we're just handing the Adams family a billion-dollar check. That's not how the deal is structured.
Every single economic impact study ever done on NFL stadiums — Stanford, Harvard, independent researchers — finds little to no measurable boost to local economies. The jobs are mostly part-time and seasonal. The spending is mostly substitution of existing entertainment dollars not new money. This isn't opinion, it's like twenty years of economic literature. Anyone citing "economic impact" numbers provided by the team's own consultants is reading advertising not analysis.
Genuinely asking — and I want an actual Titans fan to answer me — would YOU, personally, pay an extra $200 a year in taxes to fund this thing? Or does the math only work when it's somebody else's money?
My grandfather worked construction on the original stadium in the 90s and was so proud of it. I think about him every time I drive past it. That said even he would probably admit the thing looks like a gray shoebox held together with prayers at this point. I don't know the right answer here honestly. I just know Nashville isn't a small town anymore and small-town thinking in either direction isn't gonna serve us.
Counterpoint nobody wants to hear: Nissan Stadium is genuinely falling apart. Like structurally. I was at the Bills game two seasons ago and there was water pouring through the upper deck concourse like a waterfall. We're not choosing between a new stadium and some utopia where teachers get raises. We're choosing between a new stadium and patching an old one that's going to keep costing money anyway.

Nashville approved a new convention center expansion without blinking. approved the fairgrounds speedway stuff. approved East Bank infrastructure. The Titans stadium discourse is the only time half these people have ever said the word 'taxpayer' in their lives
