Ronaldo or Messi: be honest, who is the actual GOAT?
Two decades, endless trophies, and a debate that refuses to die. Forget your flag and your favourite — who is genuinely the greatest of all time, and what's the one fact that settles it?

Add your commentronaldo is the greatest GOALSCORER. messi is the greatest FOOTBALLER. there. ive ended 15 years of arguing and you're all welcome
Both are the GOAT. We are insanely lucky to have watched both in the same era and in 30 years we'll be the annoying old people telling kids they'll never see anything like it. And we'll be right.
Messi. Five World Cup knockouts of carrying a weaker squad than people admit, plus he finally won the one trophy the haters used for 15 years. The conversation is over for anyone being honest.
Ronaldo did it in 4 different leagues, dragged Portugal to a Euro, and rewrote what a 36 year old body is allowed to do. Messi spent his peak in a system built around him. Different difficulty settings.
the fact that this debate still gets 100+ replies in 2026 IS the answer. theres no winner. theres just two giants and a billion people who cant let go. and honestly? i never want this argument to end
My dad supports Ronaldo, I support Messi, and we have not had a peaceful dinner since 2009. This thread is just my family group chat with extra steps.
the 'messi had a better team' people and the 'ronaldo had a better team' people need to be put in a room together and not let out until one of them cries
The World Cup ended it. I'm sorry but it did. The one thing they said he could never do, against the best, at his peak nerves, and he delivered. There is no equivalent gap left for Ronaldo to close.
Maradona and Pelé fans sitting in this thread aging like fine wine watching two players who never won it the way they did argue about being the greatest 😌
23 years old, grew up watching both my whole life. To me this isn't even a debate, it's a privilege. You picked the perfect time to be a football fan and you spent it arguing. Touch grass, enjoy it.
I'm Argentine and even I'll admit Ronaldo's discipline is something Leo never had to develop because the talent was just there. That's not an insult to Messi, it's a compliment to Cristiano's grind.
Nah that's the diplomatic cop-out everyone hides behind. Be brave. Pick one. If your house was on fire and you could only save one career, you're saving Messi's and you know it.
Off the pitch?? We're ranking footballers, not Instagram accounts. By that logic the GOAT is a phone company. Stick to football.
Stats favour Messi. Mentality and longevity favour Ronaldo. Pick which one you value more and stop pretending your preference is a fact.
people forget ronaldo basically willed champions league trophies into existence. that knockout version of him was genuinely terrifying. messi went missing in some big european nights and you all know it
Goals aren't the only stat that exists. Assists, dribbles completed, chances created, Ballon d'Ors. Cherry-picking the one number your guy leads in is the oldest trick in this thread.
Neither. Best player I ever saw with my own eyes was Ronaldinho before injuries, and he made BOTH of them say they wanted to play like him. Chew on that.
'Went missing' — the man has the most assists in Champions League knockout history. Watch the games instead of the highlights of the games.
Messi fans always say 'just watch him play' because the stats argument got harder once Ronaldo passed him in goals. Convenient pivot to vibes, lads.
Watch them play. Just watch. One is gravity-defying willpower, the other is a magic trick your eyes can't keep up with. Reducing this to a spreadsheet is a crime.
imagine basing an entire career verdict on one tournament that came down to penalties. by that logic iniesta and mbappe have claims too. be serious
Respectfully, Maradona won ONE World Cup and we act like he invented the sport. Recency bias works both ways, old timers.
ronaldo for the influence off the pitch too. most followed human on earth, moves entire leagues by signing. messi is quieter. greatness isnt only goals
Messi. Left foot. Done. Anything else is noise.
Is 'Sinners' the most important Black American film in a decade, or is the vampire metaphor just Hollywood dressing up history to make it palatable?
